What are the best solar panels in the UK?

We supply a range of solar panel brands. For new build projects we are an accredited Viridian installation company. Their in-roof panels are fire rated to UK standards and sit into the roof giving a sleek and aesthetically pleasing installation. For existing roofs, we supply all black, tier one companies, such as Trina solar, Jinko and Sunpower. These brands are known for their high efficiency, durability, and reliability, making them among the best options in the UK market.

How many solar panels do I need?

It all depends on the number of people in your household, your energy consumption, and the available roof space.

A typical three-bedroom house might have a 3kWh system made up of 7 or 8 tier one all black 430 watt solar panels. Typically, this would be expected to generate around 2,500 – 2,800 kWh per year.

The most common systems that we install are 4 kWh, comprising around ten tier one all black 430 watt solar panels. Typically, this would be expected to generate around 3,600 kWh – 3,750 kWh per year.

We customise all our installations to suit your requirements so get in touch now for a free quote.

How much do solar panels cost?

A typical 4 kWh system with ten 430w all black, tier one solar panels might cost between £5,000 – £6,000.

Precise installation costs vary, for a detailed quotation please get in touch.

How much do home batteries cost?

We supply a number of leading battery systems. Our industry leading 13.4kWh Tesla Powerwall 2 with backup gateway currently costs around £7,000 to £7,500. Homeco Energy has been an authorised Tesla dealer since 2013.

We also supply systems from UK company, Givenergy. They have a range of batteries starting from £2,500 for a 2.5kWh battery system, up to £6,000 for a 9.5kWh storage system.

What are the benefits of a home battery system?

Our battery systems allow you to store excess solar energy to use in the evening, when typical usage is higher.

You can also charge the battery from the grid, allowing you to make use of lower rates from off-peak tariffs

The Tesla Powerwall has an automatic backup facility that allows you to keep the power on during a power cut. The Givenergy battery has an optional backup facility that can be added to the installation.

How much electricity can I save with solar panels?

A typical solar system can save between 50 and 70% on your energy bills. The precise numbers depend on your energy usage, electricity prices, the system size, and the orientation of your roof. For a south-facing roof based in and around Sheffield, a 4kWp solar PV array made up of ten, all black, tier one solar panels, would be expected to generate around 3,805 kWh per year.

For a precise estimate and quotation please get in touch.

How long until my solar panels break even?

Your precise break-even point will vary according to system size, cost, energy consumption and tariff rate but during 2023, on average, you can expect to recover your installation costs from between 7 – 12 years domestically and 3-5 years for a larger commercial installation (12kWp-100kWp).

We can provide more specific estimates based on your situation, please get in touch for a quotation.

What happens if anything goes wrong?

We provide warranties and ongoing support for all our solar installations. This includes servicing and addressing any issues post-installation. All of our installations come with a ten year insurance backed installation warranty.

Can you install solar panels on a flat roof?

Yes, solar panels can be installed on flat roofs, with specific mounting systems to optimise their efficiency.

Do solar panels work on a north, north-west or east facing roof?

Solar panels are most efficient on south-facing roofs, but they can also be installed on roofs facing other directions, though the efficiency and output will vary.

Property Refurbishment, Youlgreave, Derbyshire

Domestic 3.84kWp Solar PV Array

As part of the planning restrictions, any Solar PV system on this property had to be discreet. Homeco Energy supplied and fitted our industry leading Sunpower 320 watt all black module along with our GSE In Roof mounting system – fitting the panels flush to the roof line allowed the panels to sit within the roof with the slate surrounding the panels. Aesthetically pleasing, this 3.84kWp system will generate around 3,200kWh’s per year, saving 1.5 tonnes of C02 per year.

Private Property, Sheffield

Two Domestic 5.6kWp Solar PV Arrays, SolarEdge Optimisation and Tesla Powerwall Battery Storage

Homeco Energy recently supplied two 6kWp Solar PV arrays to a homeowner in Sheffield. Coupled with a 13.5kWp Tesla Powerwall and maximised by our SolarEdge optimisation units, specification wise, this system is as good as it gets. Generating around 5,000kWh’s per system, each panel operates independently to the next thanks to the optimisation system. This maximises generation and minimises shading and degradation impacts. Working in conjunction with the Tesla Powerwall battery system, this client goes days and even weeks during the spring and summer without paying for any electricity. Maximising generation through SolarEdge and maximising self-consumption through the Tesla Powerwall battery storage system.

Domestic New Build, Oxford

3.84kWp Solar PV Array with SolarEdge Optimisation, GSE In Roof Mounting and Tesla Powerwall Battery system

Working on behalf of Oakworth Homes, our client wanted a discreet In Roof Solar PV system to work in conjunction with a Tesla Powerwall battery storage unit. This 12 panel industry leading Sunpower solar panel comes with a 25 year product warranty as well as a guaranteed degradation of less than 0.2% per year for 24 years. Optimised by SolarEdge, the client can view the performance of each individual panel, whilst the optimisers minimise shading and panel degradation. This system is expected to generate around 3,400kWh’s per year saving around 1.5 tonnes of C02 in the process.

Ashbourne Grand Design New Build

6kW Solar PV Installation

Our client was building his dream grand design house and wanted us to incorporate the all black solar panels into his metal standing seam roof. In conjunction with the timber frame manufacturer, Oakworth Homes, we developed a recessed roof that allowed us to fit the panels to the metal roof, making them sit lower into the main roof. This gave the impression of the panels being the same height as the panels, giving an aesthetically pleasing result. This 6Kw system will generate around 5,500kWh’s of solar electric a year.

Sunpower In Roof Solar PV Sheffield 4kWp

Utilising the GSE in roof mounting system and one of the worlds leading solar modules, the Sunpower 327, this system will be expected to generate an average of 3,600kh’s of electricity per day. The Sunpower panel comes with a market leading 25 year product warranty and industry leading performance guarantee, giving the lowest panel degradation rate available in the industry.

New Build Housing Site, Sheffield

This small building project required Homeco to reduce the onsite estimated energy consumption by 10% in order to meet planning requirements. The easiest way to do this was to fit each house with a roof integrated 1.5kWp solar PV array. Aesthetically pleasing, these systems allowed the planning to be signed off whilst given each new home owner a saving on their electricity consumption.

In Roof Solar PV Installation, Sheffield

6kWp

As part of this refurb project we were asked to fit as many panels on this property as possible. Utilising the discreet GSE in roof mounting system with market leading all black 340 watt LG modules we were able to fit panels to five different roof areas using the SolarEdge optimisation system.

Retro Fit Solar PV and Air Source Heat Pump Installation – Ashbourne

Our client had recently moved into an all-electric property in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. With an old electric boiler the bills were sky high. Homeco Energy provided the house with a 6kWp solar PV array split over two roof areas whilst also installing a 16kWp Nibe air source heat pump. The solar will generate around 5,200kWh’s a year whilst the heat pump will reduce their existing heating bills by around two thirds. The heat pump is also eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive grant scheme which will contribute around £12,000 to the client over the first seven years. Along with the overall electricity savings this system will have paid for itself in around five years.
